Signe's Bio
I live by one of the great freshwater oceans, lake Michigan in Frankfort, Michigan a small resort coastal town. I started doing my first Dream Bed in 1995, it's called "Global Women". At this time, I was counseling women in a domestic violence shelter, and while helping these women I realized no matter where we are, we all akin to one another; so " Global Women". Preceding doing "Global Women" these ideas where spawning in the 1980's. I was logging my dreams and discussing them with friends, and/or a current therapist while working towards being a healthier better person. About this same time, my mother, Joanne Brown a BFA artist was making these great decoupage birdhouses (way before the now current fad of decorative birdhouses). I grew up doing art projects with my mom so told her I wanted to do these but with bigger pieces, maybe beds. It took a few years for this to come to fruition.
I do have thoughts or inspiration for each of these beds but their intended purpose is to help you dream. Dreaming is an especially sensitive perception that can connect you with your life forces.
I can reveal my one and only dream that inspired a bed. Like many of my dreams this one did revolve around water. I was traveling with family members on beautiful waters. I was looking for something and when I came to a wooden cottage, like one I summered in as a child, I was in the bedroom and there was a ladder that I climbed up & it had a square entrance into a attic area. When I looked into this room it was the most beautiful spherical room with opaque glass shapes and pieces shimmering and glowing. Some time after this dream I spent the night in my sleeping bag during the summer solstice 1999 on the beach watching both sunset and sunrise. I came home and did "My Mendallah Dream" Bed.
I was also inspired by the women in my family who are mothers during Mother's day 1999 before completing "Mother's Day" MORE ABOUT ME
I have two children: Emily Woods, who is married and lives in Malta, Illinois and Ryan Ruddy who is in Graduate school at University of Ohio. I have been single since 1980 and did work in food service then went back to school when I was 40 to achieve a B.S. in Public Health and a MS Ed in Adult Education. I am currently working for our local County Mental Health agency.
I love living by lake Michigan and walking the beaches in the summer. When the season changes and the days get much shorter, I find myself cutting things from magazines, thinking about the beautiful pieces of life that can come together with colors and I start another Dream bed. |
