A lovely Chinese woman under a fruit tree is the subject of this chrysoprase carving. Chrysoprase is a rare variety of chalcedony colored by nickel. It is hard and durable so it is a wonderful carving material able to take great detail. Its resemblence to fine jadeite leads the Chinese to refer to it as "Australian Jade" after its country of origin |
